The video trailer for the new Playstation 3 video game MLB12: The Show was released today and in it we got several looks at new Major League Baseball uniforms for the upcoming 2012 season “in action” such as the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.

But at the 1:27 mark of the video there’s a shot of a home run derby with a player wearing a gold jersey that reads “American” in blue script across the front, this jersey also has white sleeves.

What we’re likely seeing is our first look at the 2012 MLB All-Star Game batting practice/home run derby jerseys, these jerseys are typically patterned after the host team’s colour scheme or uniforms – this year the All-Star Game will be played in Kansas City, the Royals have a colour scheme of blue, white, and gold.

In recent seasons these jerseys are worn during the Home Run Derby and any events that take place prior to the actual All-Star Game itself.  These jerseys will typically have the All-Star Game logo on one sleeve and the team logo of the team the player plays for on the other sleeve. There are no special caps, the player will wear his regular team cap with a all-star game patch on the side and two stars on either side of the MLB patch on the back of the cap.

No shots of the new National League jersey but my money’s on a blue jersey with white sleeves and “National” across the front in white with gold accents.

all star jerseys might be the most worthless jerseys ever. they dont even wear them in the game. whats the point. a sleeve/hat patch does the trick... although they showed up last year for about a week or two, but the all-stars should be able to wear the star on their hat/jersey for the remainder of the season

@Alex, I believe in 2005 the plan was to wear the All-Star BP jerseys in the actual game but fans (myself included) hated the idea... I love seeing all the different team uniforms on the field at the same time.

I think that team mates should wear different uniforms like the old A's did. This would look really cool with all the mixing of colors, unlike both sides wearing grey as the road, and white as the home.

The Giant's altered Away jersey is also featured at the 0:57 mark.

Very cool uniforms! I think the N.L. should reverse these colors and use this color scheme for their jerseys.

Why don't they just wear the All Star Jersey and team hats like they do in football?

I could be wrong about this but in the past haven't the all star BP jerseys matched the same style/template that the whole league uses for their BP jerseys. If so is this a hint that there may also be new BP jerseys this season or more likely a preview of what would be worn in the 2013 season? Because if this jersey is on the current template I can't seem to tell by the screenshots.
