Boston Americans Logos History

The Boston Americans were a charter member of the American League and were officially known as the "Boston American Baseball Club". The team was named after the league of which they were a member, fans referred to them as the Americans to avoid confusion with the National League team which also played in Boston at the time.

The Americans took part in and won the inaugural World Series in 1903 defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 games to 3. The team, wanting an actual nickname and identity, was renamed the Boston Red Sox in December of 1907 and adopted the new moniker beginning with the 1908 season.
