Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (Локомотив Ярославль) plays at Arena 2000 in Yaroslavl, Russia. They joined the KHL in 2008-09 as one of the original teams in the league, the team was originally established in 1963 and played in various Soviet and Russian leagues until the KHL was formed. The team has two nicknames in English, Loko and the Railwaymen. Due to a horriffic plane crash which killed 44 people, including the entire active roster of the Lokomotiv team as well as their coaching staff, on September 7, 2011 the team was forced to suspend operations for the 2011-12 season, re-joining the league in 2012-13.
