Albany Great Danes Logos History

Previously known as the Pedagogues, the University of Albany announced their athletic teams would be known as the Great Danes in 1965. The name was chosen as the result of a name the team contest and the winning entry was submitted by U of Albany student Kathy Earle who chose the name Great Danes because of their size, weight, strength, character, courage, speed, and stamina. Earle received a $25 savings bond as the prize for the name.
