During their most legendary era, the New York Yankees logo featured an interlocking NY logo in midnight navy blue. The team first used this design in 1909 but had recoloured it a few times since. Originally designed by Tiffany & Co., the interlocking NY logo first appeared on a medal of valour. This medal was awarded in 1877 to John McDowell, a New York City police officer who was shot while performing his duties.
