Barys Astana (Barys Hokkej Kluby) play at Barys Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan; they joined the Kontinental Hockey League during it's debut season in 2008-09. The team was established in 1999 and spent ten seasons in the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship before moving to the Russian Superleague system. The team name translates to Snow Leopard in English and was chosen as it is a national symbol of Kazakhstan.
