New Orleans Baby Cakes Logos History

Following 24 seasons as the Zephyrs, New Orleans announced they would be known as the Baby Cakes on November 15, 2016. "Baby Cakes" refers to the small plastic baby found hidden within king cakes, a popular treat at New Orleans' famous Mardi Gras celebration. The Baby Cakes name was chosen from a list of seven finalists, the losing options were Crawfish, King Cakes, Night Owls, Po'boys, Red Eyes, and Tailgators.

In addition to the Baby Cakes regular uniform set are two throwback options which pay homage to the old New Orleans Pelicans baseball team who played off-and-on between 1887 and 1977. A patch on the Baby Cakes jersey also makes reference to the Zephyrs and Pelicans in the form of a bird and the letter "Z".
