Charlotte 49ers Merchandise Available Now!

Originally known as the Owls, UNC Charlotte adopted the name 49ers in recognition of the college being saved from closure in 1949 by the state of North Carolina. The name was also chosen in the spirit of the original '49ers who travelled the United States seeking fortune during the 1849 Gold Rush. The campus is also located on state highway 49 but this is purely coincidental.
