Northern Kentucky Norse Logo

Primary Logo (1971-1976)

What is the Northern Kentucky Norse Logo?

Single-color Primary logo of a Norsemen head with helmet above reverse arched NORSEMEN inside circle. Not the official version and years of use may slightly differ. NKU adopted the Norsemen nickname in 1971 when the then Northern Kentucky State College adopted an athletic program. The NKSC student body chose the name in a newspaper contest. The reason Norsemen was chosen, according to some of the students, is because it seemed to go with a school named Northern. Besides, in the winter, students maintain that there is no colder place on earth than NKU (located on the highest geographical point in northern Kentucky).
