Stonehill College announced in May 2005 that the nickname for each of its varsity athletic programs would be the Skyhawks, effective with the 2005-2006 academic year that began on July 1, 2005. Stonehill`s Board of Trustees formally approved the retirement of the school`s then athletic nickname of Chieftains earlier in the spring of 2005.
