North Texas Mean Green Logo

Primary Logo (1973-1983)

What is the North Texas Mean Green Logo?

Stylized eagle design in Apple Green and Dark Green. Dubbed the Flying Worm, the design comes with curvilinear shapes and a long, thick body with equally thick wings coming off its back. Football Head Coach Hayden Fry and artist Rick Spears helped bring this logo to North Texas (North Texas State at the time) in 1973 to rejuvenate the football program. The logo has been featured on football throwback helmets in 2013 and in the 2020s.
