What is the California Golden Bears Logo?
Primary Script Cal logo in blue. This version debuted in 1978 and is based off the Brush Script font. In the 1970s, other variations of the Script Cal were used until settling on this one. How did the Script Cal come to be? For many decades, the Block C represented California athletics but in the 1970s, all that changed. More emphasis was wanted on shortening the program name to Cal instead of California, Berkeley, or Cal-Berkeley. The script idea may have come from the Script Ohio displayed by Ohio State`s marching band. Cal & Ohio State had met in the 1950 Rose Bowl Game.
