The debut of the famous interlocked NY logo for the New York Yankees franchise. This was first used by the then-New York Highlanders, worn as a sleeve patch on their uniforms in 1909 and the front of their cap in red. The Highlanders would keep this logo with them as they rebranded as the Yankees in 1913. Originally designed by Tiffany & Co., the interlocking NY logo first appeared on a medal of valour. This medal was awarded in 1877 to John McDowell, a New York City police officer who was shot while performing his duties.
