Colgate Raiders Logos History

The Colgate Raiders adopted maroon as the university's official athletics colour in 1900, replacing orange. The school got its first official nickname 32 years later when after an "undefeated, untied, unscored upon" season they adopted the name Red Raiders, a reference to the club's reddish uniforms. The school used Native American imagery for their mascot over the next few decades before moving away in the 1970s, the "Red" from the name was retired in 2001 due to continued associations with the previous Native American mascots.
