Texas Longhorns Logo

Primary Logo (1961-2011)

What is the Texas Longhorns Logo?

The Royal Longhorn logo. Shade of Burnt Orange is Pantone 159C. In 1961, Darrell Royal asked sporting-goods merchant William \"Rooster\" Andrews to design a team logo. He gave Royal a crayon drawing of a longhorn logo and that was it. It went onto their football helmets and that season they went 10-1. This logo is regarded as the Royal Longhorn logo. This version of Burnt Orange actually didn\'t exist until the following year in 1962. In 1961, an \'orange\' was used but due to limited images and them being in black & white, we are unsure of the shade of orange used in 1961. The Burnt orange used in 1962 through 2011 became official in 1967. By the mid-\'80s, the Royal logo had become the standard longhorn logo across the athletic program and university.
